Getting Started with the Throwback Phone II

Connect your Throwback Phone II and Voiply Adapter, and you will be ready to make calls in just a few minutes.

Welcome to the Voiply Kids Phone Plan! Your kit comes with the Throwback Phone II, a slim, easy-to-use corded phone with the buttons right on the handset, along with a Voiply Adapter that connects it to your service. Setup is plug and play, so there is nothing to configure on your end. Just follow the steps below.

What's in the Box

  • Throwback Phone II (base and handset)
  • Coiled handset cord
  • Phone line cord
  • Voiply Adapter
  • Ethernet cable
  • Power adapter

Connect Your Phone and Adapter

  1. Connect the handset. Plug one end of the coiled cord into the handset, then plug the other end into the jack on the phone base.
  2. Connect the Voiply Adapter to your router. Plug the ethernet cable into the blue port on the adapter, then plug the other end into an open port on your router.
  3. Connect the phone to the adapter. Plug the phone line cord into the green port on the adapter, then plug the other end into the jack on the underside of the phone base.
  4. Plug in the power. Connect the Voiply Adapter to power using the included power adapter.
  5. Wait for the adapter to set up. The lights on the adapter will turn solid blue when it is ready. The adapter will reboot twice while it configures your account, which can take up to 5 minutes.

For a closer look at connecting the Voiply Adapter, including photos and a setup video, see Getting Started with Voiply Home.

Set Up the Phone

After everything is connected, take a minute to set up the phone the way your child will use it.

  • Place the phone. Set the Throwback Phone II on a desk or table. Feed the line cord through the channel on the bottom so the phone sits flat.
  • Check the dial mode switch. Make sure the dial mode switch is set to Tone (TT). The phone comes set to Tone, which is what your Voiply service uses. If calls will not dial, check that this switch is on TT and not DP.
  • Set the ringer volume. The ringer volume switch lets you set the ring to OFF, LO, or HI. If it is set to OFF, the phone will not ring when someone calls. You can also choose from three ringer tones.
  • Adjust the handset volume. The volume switch on the side of the handset has three levels, so you can pick a comfortable listening level. The handset is hearing-aid compatible.
  • Fill in the directory card. Write your child's phone number on the directory card so it is always easy to find, then snap the clear cover back on.

Using Your Phone

Once the adapter lights are solid blue, your phone is ready to use.

  • To make a call: Lift the handset, wait for the dial tone, then dial the number on the handset keypad.
  • To answer a call: Lift the handset when the phone rings.
  • To end a call: Hang up the handset.
  • To redial the last number: Lift the handset and press the Redial button.
  • To mute a call: Press the Mute button so the other person cannot hear you. Press it again to turn mute off.

Tip: Make a test call to a trusted number to be sure everything is working.

Save Important Numbers

The Throwback Phone II can store numbers so your child can reach the right people quickly.

  • One-touch buttons: Save up to 3 numbers, such as a parent or guardian, so your child can call them with a single button press. This is great for the people your child calls most.
  • Speed dial: Save up to 10 more numbers, each dialed with two button presses.

Tip: Write the saved numbers on the directory card so they are easy to remember.

Good to know: Your phone needs the Voiply Adapter to be plugged into power and connected to the internet in order to make and receive calls, including 911.

Important Safety Information

  • Read these instructions before using the phone.
  • Avoid using the phone during a thunderstorm, since there is a small risk of shock from lightning.
  • Do not use the phone to report a gas leak if you are near the leak.
  • Do not use the phone near water, such as near a sink, bathtub, or pool.
  • Place the phone where no one can trip over the cords, and protect the cords from damage.
  • Do not take the phone apart. There are no parts inside that you can service.
  • Unplug the phone and contact Voiply Support if the cord is damaged, liquid has gotten inside, or the phone has been dropped.

Caring for Your Phone

  • Clean the phone with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use liquid or spray cleaners.
  • Avoid dropping the handset, and place it back gently after each call.
