[Kids Phone Service](https://kb.voiply.com/kids-phone-service) # Getting Started with the Throwback Phone I ## Connect your Throwback Phone and Voiply Adapter, and you will be ready to make calls in just a few minutes. Welcome to the Voiply Kids Phone Plan! Your kit comes with the Throwback Phone I, a classic corded phone that is simple for kids to use, along with a Voiply Adapter that connects it to your service. Setup is plug and play, so there is nothing to configure on your end. Just follow the steps below. ![](https://kb.voiply.com/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png-Jun-04-2026-12-15-38-1943-PM.png?width=663&height=423&name=image-png-Jun-04-2026-12-15-38-1943-PM.png) ### What's in the Box - Throwback Phone I (base and handset) - Coiled handset cord - Phone line cord - Voiply Adapter - Ethernet cable - Power adapter ### Connect Your Phone and Adapter 1. **Connect the handset.** Plug one end of the coiled cord into the handset, then plug the other end into the jack on the side of the phone base. 2. **Connect the Voiply Adapter to your router.** Plug the ethernet cable into the **blue port** on the adapter, then plug the other end into an open port on your router. 3. **Connect the phone to the adapter.** Plug the phone line cord into the **green port** on the adapter, then plug the other end into the connector on the back of the phone. 4. **Plug in the power.** Connect the Voiply Adapter to power using the included power adapter. 5. **Wait for the adapter to set up.** The lights on the adapter will turn solid blue when it is ready. The adapter will reboot twice while it configures your account, which can take up to 5 minutes.  For a closer look at connecting the Voiply Adapter, including photos and a setup video, see [Getting Started with Voiply Home](https://kb.voiply.com/getting-started-with-voiply-home). ### Set Up the Phone After everything is connected, take a minute to set up the phone the way your child will use it. - **Place the phone.** Set the Throwback Phone on a desk, table, or other flat surface within reach of the adapter. - **Set the ringer volume.** The ringer volume control is on the bottom of the phone. Set it to a comfortable level. If it is set to **OFF**, the phone will not ring when someone calls. - **Adjust the handset volume.** The handset has a small volume knob. Turn it toward the earpiece to make callers louder, or toward the mouthpiece to make them quieter. The handset is also hearing-aid compatible. - **Add the number card.** Write your child's phone number on the number card and slide it into the slot on the front of the phone, so it is always easy to find. ### Using Your Phone Once the adapter lights are solid blue, your phone is ready to use. - **To make a call:** Lift the handset, wait for the dial tone, then dial the number. - **To answer a call:** Lift the handset when the phone rings. - **To end a call:** Place the handset back on the phone. Tip: Make a test call to a trusted number to be sure everything is working. **Good to know:** Your phone needs the Voiply Adapter to be plugged into power and connected to the internet in order to make and receive calls, including 911. ### Important Safety Information - Read these instructions before using the phone. - Do not use the phone near water, such as near a sink, bathtub, or pool. - Place the phone on a stable surface so it cannot fall. - Do not rest objects on the phone cord, and keep it where it will not be stepped on. - Do not block the vents on the bottom of the phone. - Do not spill liquids on the phone or push objects into any openings. - Do not take the phone apart. There are no parts inside that you can service. - Avoid using the phone during a thunderstorm, since there is a small risk of shock from lightning. - Do not use the phone to report a gas leak if you are near the leak. - Unplug the phone and contact Voiply Support if the cord is damaged, liquid has gotten inside, or the phone has been dropped. ### Caring for Your Phone - Clean the phone with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use liquid or spray cleaners. - Avoid dropping the handset, and place it back gently after each call. ### Troubleshooting **No dial tone** - Make sure the phone line cord is firmly connected to the phone and to the green port on the Voiply Adapter. - Check that the Voiply Adapter is powered on and its lights are solid blue. - For more help, see [Troubleshooting Your Voiply Adapter](https://kb.voiply.com/troubleshooting-your-voiply-adapter). **The phone does not ring** - Check that the ringer volume control on the bottom of the phone is not set to OFF. ### What's Next Now that your phone is connected, you can personalize it from your Voiply portal.
