Why OTP and WhatsApp Messages May Not Work with Voiply SMS

Understanding SMS Limitations with Voiply

If you're trying to receive One-Time Passwords (OTP) or WhatsApp verification codes via SMS on your Voiply number, you may notice that these messages do not come through. This is because Voiply numbers are classified as VoIP (Voice over IP) numbers, which are not always compatible with certain SMS services.

Why OTP and WhatsApp SMS May Not Work

1. OTP Messages (One-Time Passwords)

  • Many services (such as banks, online platforms, and apps) use specialized SMS routes to send OTPs.
  • These routes are often restricted to mobile carrier numbers and do not support VoIP numbers.

2. WhatsApp Verification

  • WhatsApp requires a mobile carrier number for SMS-based verification.
  • Since Voiply numbers are VoIP-based, they are generally not supported for WhatsApp verification via SMS.

What Are the Alternatives?

  • If you're trying to verify WhatsApp, you may see an option for “Call Me” verification instead of SMS. Some customers have successfully verified WhatsApp using this method, but it is not guaranteed to work.
  • For OTP messages, we recommend using a mobile carrier number to receive verification codes.
