Porting - How to Get a CSR (Customer Service Record) From Your Phone Company

What Is a CSR?

A CSR is a document your phone company keeps.
It shows important details on your account, like:

  • The name on the account

  • The address your phone number is connected to

  • Your account number

  • Any features or services you have

This information helps make sure your phone number can move to a new company without problems.

Why Do I Need a CSR?

When you move your phone number to another company, your old company checks the information you submit.  If the details match what they have, the porting request is approved. If something doesn’t match, it may be delayed or rejected. Having your CSR makes the whole process faster and easier.

How to Get Your CSR

Follow these simple steps:

  1. Call your current phone company’s customer service line.

  2. Say: “I would like a copy of my Customer Service Record for my phone number.”

  3. Ask them to email the CSR to you so you get all the details in writing.

  4. Once you have it, upload it together with your bill/invoice when you submit your porting request to Voiply.

  5. After uploading these documents, monitor your porting status in your account.

Special Note for Canadian Customers

Canadian phone companies do things a little differently:

  • Most do not release CSRs to other phone companies.

  • You must request it yourself as the account owner.

  • They may ask questions to confirm you’re the correct person on the account.

If the carrier won’t provide the CSR, ask them for the essential details needed to move your number:

  • Exact name on the account

  • Service address

  • Account number

  • Name of the authorized contact

  • A PIN/passcode (only if your carrier uses one)
Having these details usually ensures a smooth porting process.
